In general, your Wordpress blog will send ping each time you update the blog. Which means, if you post a new content, the ping will be sent. The same goes whenever you edit one same post and press the update button. If you edit one post, change a few words and click the update button, you will send unnecessary ping to ping servers. Some servers don’t like this and might blacklist your blog due to excessive pinging.

You can use either Maxblog Press Ping Optimizer or CB Net Ping Optimizer plugin. These plugins will send ping only when new post is added and not whenever you edit previous post.

3. Google XML Sitemap Generator.

This plugin will generate a sitemap which contains the links to all your blog posts and pages. Plus, it will also recreate the sitemap each time you add new post or pages. This will help search engines to index your website better.

4. Post Mash plugin.

By default, the latest post will be displayed on front page of your blog. If you have important announcement, advertisement or want to highlight certain information, you don’t want it that way. Probably you want to send visitors to the most relevant post in your blog.
